The Physics Hall addition, now known as Zaffarano Hall, was completed in 1968. It is named for former department chair Daniel Zaffarano, who was chair of the department from 1961 to 1971 and instrumental in overseeing the contruction of the addition.
The regents approved the renaming of the Physics Hall addition to Zaffarano Hall in honor of Professor Zaffarano in 2005, after he had died on December 3, 2004 at the age of 86.
The five-story building houses most of the offices of Physics Hall faculty, as well as administrative offices for the High-Energy Physics and Condensed Matter Physics research groups. In addition, contains several laboratories for research groups in the Physics Department, in addition to laboratories used for advanced undegraduate classes.
