VEISHEA is the annual spring-time celebration for ISU. This event was canceled for the spring of 2005 due to rioting on April 18, 2004. VEISHEA and returned in 2006.
An acronym for the original 5 colleges at ISU in 1922:
- Veterinary
- Engineering
- Industrial Science
- Home Economics
- Agriculture
The Iowa State Daily no longer considers VEISHEA an acronym on account of many of the former colleges no longer exisiting, but simply a proper noun. For this reason, the Daily's stylebook dictates that the festival be referred to as "Veishea" not "VEISHEA". However, the Daily is not the end-all for how to write the name of the festival: the official VEISHEA website still uses "VEISHEA" and VEISHEA is still an acronym regardless of the status of the colleges (USSR is still an acronym despite the state no longer existing as USSR).
It was considered the largest student-run celebration in the country.
Former ISU President Martin Jischke banned alcohol from campus during VEISHEA weekend because of the Uri Sellers murder during the 1997 VEISHEA celebration. Discussions started in October 2005 about VEISHEA's alcohol ban being lifted. The decision lies in the hands of president Gregory Geoffroy. Good luck with that.

- The article, ISU committee voices support of 'wet' Veishea, in the 10/24, 2005 edition of the Iowa State Daily is still unavailable due to a change in the Daily's website and general laziness of Rofflehaus contributors.
