[edit] HERE'S HOW TO FIX THE LINKS

It sucks, but it has to be done, unless the Daily decided to go back to the old website.

You really only have to change two things in the Template:ISUD. First of all, change the name of the template to NewISUD. Next, go to the Daily's website and find the article, find the article's page, and copy the file name. Paste it into the spot in the template where the hexadecimal code is and it should work for most pages. Some articles (like the one below) require an extra folder to be added before the file name, some don't.

[edit] EXAMPLES

[edit] OLD URL

http://www.iowastatedaily.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/06/28/42c0b35cb1d9e?in_archive=1

[edit] OLD ISUD TEMPLATE

{{ISUD|2005|06/28|42c0b35cb1d9e|Fighters go postal in the post office}}

[edit] RESULT

The article, Fighters go postal in the post office, in the 06/28, 2005 edition of the Iowa State Daily is still unavailable due to a change in the Daily's website and general laziness of Rofflehaus contributors. If you'd like to help fix a broken link like this, check out Template talk:ISUD to find out how. Thank you for your patience. (D: 06/28/2005)

[edit] NEW URL

http://www.iowastatedaily.com/media/paper818/news/2005/06/28/News/Fighters.Go.Postal.In.The.Post.Office-1104606.shtml

[edit] NEWISUD TEMPLATE

{{NewISUD|2005|06/28|News/Fighters.Go.Postal.In.The.Post.Office-1104606|Fighters go postal in the post office}}

[edit] RESULT

Fighters go postal in the post office (Iowa State Daily: 06/28/2005)

Hope this helps. --Freddie 07:31, 23 January 2006 (CST)

So for n00bs like me who don't know how to use this, what you're saying is that to create a link to a Daily article that will survive through many changes to their web server down the line, I take a URL like this:

http://www.iowastatedaily.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/06/28/42c0b35cb1d9e?in_archive=1

...and look for the date of the article and that fooky hexadecimal code, in this case 2005/06/28 and 42c0b35cb1d9e, and then plop that and the article title into the template like this:

{{ISUD|2005|06/28|42c0b35cb1d9e|Fighters go postal in the post office}}

...to make a link like this?

If the "?inarchive=1" suffix is really needed in the URL, we can just add it in the template. I don't think it really makes any difference though. On the plus side, all template invokation is now much more concise. --pussykatz 00:07, 5 Jul 2005 (CDT)

Note that this now invokes Template:ISUD Basic, where the url is actually formed. --pussykatz 17:30, 17 Jul 2005 (CDT)

I've decided to split the year as its own parameter for the purpose of mm/dd/yyyy reordering. I've edited the conversation above to reflect the correct example. --pussykatz 17:49, 16 Aug 2005 (CDT)

Actually, if copy/paste a link then remove the date all together....it still works. All it cares about is that string of random digits. Cburnett 14:19, 19 Aug 2005 (CDT)
Oh, and the usages on articles like La Boheme seem to be messed up. Cburnett 14:19, 19 Aug 2005 (CDT)
I fixed the La Boheme one by adding a | in the date but who knows there could be more of them out there MrTippet 14:32, 19 Aug 2005 (CDT)
I tried to fix as much as possible, but I probably missed a few. Oh well. --pussykatz 14:42, 19 Aug 2005 (CDT)

[edit] FUCK!

The daily's website redesign has broken every link we have. I'll see if there's a way to translate our template. Hopefully they're using the same article IDs or something.--daoist 04:52, 18 Nov 2005 (CST)

Nope, of course they aren't. I created Template:NewISUD, Template:NewISUD Basic, and modified the old templates. It's going to take a long time to fix everything.--daoist 06:20, 18 Nov 2005 (CST)

[edit] Yeah I don't get this template thing.

I'm new to this, can someone help me out? That, and the Daily needs to go back to the old site. I miss posting feedback on the articles. Isugi 13:44, 20 January 2006 (CST)
