Talk:Current events
From Rofflehaus
Do we really need Current events to point to 2005? That's way too general. It's more reasonable if it points to the current month/week/semester.
However, even that may not be necessary. Just have something in the main page like "Today is Saturday, October 11 2008. Summer classes are in sessions at ISU.". If you look at the source, you can see that this uses variables and therefore requires little management effort. Note also that it seems for me at least, that the internal calendar is off by a day (i.e. it says today is Tuesday July 12 for me).
The reason I brought this up is because I had initially wanted to write something in "Current events" about my planned visit to the Ames Historical Society to gather research material and ask questions. I thought maybe "Current events" can list Rofflehaus-related research expeditions like that, among other things (e.g. photo expedition, etc).
I suppose if this proposal is unacceptable then we can at least have Rofflehaus:Expeditions or something like that for the same purpose.

- Wrong, the variables are the time the page is generated which is not at every page visit. So that's not a good option.
- As for what you propose here: I think it belongs on the community portal. Planned events doesn't nicely fall under "current" but it's certainly a community event. Cburnett 22:19, 11 Jul 2005 (CDT)
- Okay, I had suspected that the caching may interfere with my intention. Still doesn't explain why it says it's July 12 though. --pussykatz 22:24, 11 Jul 2005 (CDT)
- In UTC, it's July 12. Cburnett 22:28, 11 Jul 2005 (CDT)
