CY Stephens Auditorium is a performance hall in Iowa State Center with room enough for an audience of 2,609 people. Lots of popular people have performed here. The American Institute of Architects named it Iowa's "Building of the Century" for good ol' MCM.

One of the auditorium's prominent features is the ginormous act curtain, a gift from J.W. Fisher. It is 30 feet tall and 80 feet wide, weighs more than a ton, and was woven in one piece on the world's largest continuous loom in Kyoto, Japan. It features the artist's interpretation of "Science and Technology." Many think that the curtain is a unique work of art which shows that Iowa State has more cultural depth than your average University of Science and Technology. Others feel that it is a fine example of what NOT to do with a large sum of money.

  • The article, CY Stephens Auditorium wins 'building of the century', in the 10/21, 2004 edition of the Iowa State Daily is still unavailable due to a change in the Daily's website and general laziness of Rofflehaus contributors.
