Soft drink war

From Rofflehaus

Every few years, the three major soft drink companies bid to see who's willing to give ISU the most money for exclusive vending rights on campus. In order to make back their bid (and then some), the winning sugar water conglomerate adds a few cents to the price of their products. For the past few years, Coca-Cola was the official carbonated beverage supplier for ISU, but then in 2005 an unholy alliance between Pepsi-Cola and Dr. Pepper/Seven-Up Bottling Company snatched the vending rights out of Coke's hand. The new five-year contract will give ISU commissions varying from 50¢ per bottle for non-carbonated Pepsi beverages to 83.75¢ per bottle for carbonated Dr. Pepper/Seven-Up beverages. In effect, students and faculty are paying ISU up to 83.75¢ for the privilege of having limited choices in the vending machines on campus.
