[edit] Naming convention of this page
I just wanted to note that this page doesn't follow the naming convention listed on this page. --Freddie 12:16, 3 Jul 2005 (CDT)
- Well, this is the style manual for RH so it's the Manual of Style. Cburnett 12:22, 3 Jul 2005 (CDT)
[edit] News articles
Do we want to enforce the ISUD template for links to daily articles? Also, how about lumping links to news articles under "News articles" and not just "External links", and use "External links" only to link to non-news websites? --pussykatz 14:48, 3 Jul 2005 (CDT)
- Done and done. Cburnett 14:54, 3 Jul 2005 (CDT)
[edit] iastate.edu links
What's the convention about linking to official iastate.edu webpages? Is that really an "External link"? --pussykatz 15:03, 3 Jul 2005 (CDT)
- I would say so. It's external of rofflehaus. Cburnett 15:33, 3 Jul 2005 (CDT)
[edit] Disambiguation
Also, instead of "Des Moines restaurants", how about "Restaurants (DSM)" instead? That is, just tag on (DSM) to whatever Des Moines related. That way, in the Seafood category, you can add "Taki (DSM)", for example. --pussykatz 15:29, 3 Jul 2005 (CDT)
- There's a long history of this discussion on WP about disambiguation. Right now, I can't see that we'll have too many listings of towns for restaurants (with the exception of places like Rube's) but we won't be listing the restaurants in...San Diego or even Iowa City. If it gets to that point then making Rofflehaus extremely Ames-centric will take a fair amount of work to undo. Cburnett 15:33, 3 Jul 2005 (CDT)
[edit] Outline
This page is long overdue for an update, by the way. Regardless, I propose that these sections in an article are ordered as follows:
- See also: contain links to RH articles, and maybe WP articles
- News articles: external links to (what else) news
- External links: external links to websites
The logic is basically this: we want to keep them in RH as much as possible. Thus, we prioritize the links based on what keeps them in RH the longest. First, we offer links to RH articles. Then, in pursuit of encyclopedic knowledge (hence under See also), we offer WP links if applicable. For "truly" external links, news comes first. The hope is that once they read it they'll go back to RH. Then, external links that are more prone to surfing are offered last.
Comments? --pussykatz 02:42, 8 Aug 2005 (CDT)
- good. accepted as of a few days ago. Forgot to leave a note.--daoist 18:15, 3 Oct 2005 (CDT)
[edit] Disambiguation of professorship
As you all know, we have associate, assistant, etc professors and emeritus and lecturers as well. Should we start a disambiguation page, or what? I didn't know the difference between different professorships until I looked it up, so I thought it might be nice for students to have a reference. It's also nice to be able to call each professor by his/her actual title in their rofflehaus page. Isugi 15:43, 29 January 2006 (CST)
[edit] Skin change
I've figured out how to do skin changes, but I have no way to check my results (I'm basically just changing the monobook color formats). Any suggestions? Isugi 18:54, 29 January 2006 (CST)
[edit] Daily links
I almost think that calling it "News articles" is wrong, because columns and letters are not articles. Gotti 22:38, 9 April 2007 (CDT) Let's change the name of the news articles section to "In the Daily", to be more general for the types of pieces that appear in the Daily.--Admin 22:36, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
