Things to note when uploading something:

  • GIVE IT A MEANINGFUL NAME
    • "me.jpg" is a bad name
    • "July 2005 101.jpg" is a bad name
  • Realize that you defaultly upload something under the GFDL, but you can explicitly state the license by using a template:
    • {{GFDL}} for GFDL
    • {{GPL}} for GPL of images
    • {{PD}} for releasing it into the public domain
    • {{Logo}} for logos (still copyrighted material but used under fair use)
    • {{PD-USGov}} for stuff that's in the public domain because it's a work of the US government
    • You can specify any other license so long as it's a free license so others can use it elsewhere
    • See Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for more possibilites (copy over if you find one)
