[edit] Daily

I'm working on updating all the broken Daily links. Will definitely be a huge project. Also, updating staff and such. Created Daily current staff with a list of main people. Should this include columnists? Should the old columnist page be updated and cleaned, so that current staff is segregated? Gotti 22:31, 9 April 2007 (CDT)

[edit] New software

I've upgraded mediawiki to 1.8.2, and installed a different captcha system. It looks like it just makes you do a simple math problem. So it should be good to keep spambots and super fucking drunk people from posting.--daoist 15:04, 3 November 2006 (CST)

[edit] CyRide overhaul

I've finished overhauling the CyRide route pages. I've added information for each route, and also created a vertical template for use on the route pages similar to CBurnett's "CyRide Small" template. I created an alternate template with the destination sign readings, but I figured that would be a little too much. If you think otherwise, well, you know what to do.

Please check the pages out and correct errors/pretty up/etc etc. --Compositeur 09:18, 11 May 2006 (CDT)

[edit] Amesbeat.com

I've added a couple new templates to integrate AmesBeat.com into rofflehaus more. Check out the Amesbeat article for instructions on how to use {{amesbeat}} and {{amesbeatcat}}. --daoist 14:49, 8 March 2006 (CST)

[edit] SPAMBOTS AHOY

Recently spambots have been creating accounts and logging in to post crap. They will blank pages out and insert a ton of links to shit, usually targetting high-profile pages like Help:Content or Talk:Main Page. Everyone please be on the lookout for brand-new users editing any pages, but 'official' pages in particular. I will try to find out if anyone has a working CAPTCHA add-in for mediawiki, but until then, we all have to be on the lookout.--Admin 02:11, 30 January 2006 (CST)

I cleared one off where they didn't blank the page but added a bunch of invisble links. Be sure to check the diffs. --Admin 12:41, 24 February 2006 (CST)

[edit] Site Upgrade

I upgraded from mediawiki 1.4.5 to 1.5.4, let an admin know of any brokenness you might find.--daoist 00:12, 30 December 2005 (CST)

The ads were gone. I'm sure many of you considered that a feature :) but I put them back.--daoist 05:33, 7 January 2006 (CST)

[edit] Search Plugin

If you use Firefox (you can get it via the link in the menu) or Mozilla, you can get a search plugin for Rofflehaus here.

[edit] Rofflehaus on the Internet

IRC
Discuss rofflehaus on IRC: /server irc.freenode.net then /join #rofflehaus. Get an IRC client or log onto Vincent and do "add irc; irc"
StrangeTalk
The Rofflehaus thread on StrangeTalk is another good place for discussing Rofflehaus.
Facebook
There is also a group on Facebook. You'll need an account with that website to access it, which requires a valid iastate.edu email address.

[edit] Stuff

[edit] Remember

  • You can't point a redirect to a redirect (called a double redirect): they don't work. Instead of getting the actual article you get a redirect page and most likely confuse the heck out of an unknowing-wiki visitor. See Special:DoubleRedirects. Double redirects may be created any time a page is moved.
  • If you need to make a table, you have two template options (that I know of). Template:Prettytable is the basic table, and Template:Tabletable is the same damn thing, except it has a space in the left margin -- well-suited for placing tables on the right side of the page, like the one below.
  • Please, don't even bother making an article if you're putting links to news articles and not putting in content. --Freddie

[edit] The Daily changed its website, now all the links are broken.

[edit] Things to do

  • Let's make the New student guide kick total ass. I want incoming students to really be able to use RH for some good, and to do that we need a document like this. This is my #1 priority.--daoist 18:16, 8 Jul 2005 (CDT)

  • All of the CyRide routes (see Category:CyRide routes or small nav bar on right) need more info about where they go (links to buildings and streets), what passes by them, and perhaps time tables (copy/paste from cyride.com should be fairly easy)
    • Slowly but surely working on it... --Compositeur 10:24, 23 February 2006 (CST)
      • DONE! Check it out! --Compositeur 09:18, 11 May 2006 (CDT)
  • Please review the ISU building categorization proposal and comment on it. We need to come to a consensus about the organization of Category:ISU
  • Got a digital camera? Help out with Rofflehaus:Requests for Pictures
  • See 2005. It and other "year in" articles could have a lot of events added
  • Off campus housing guide, specifically in the Utilities Section. Setting up a table of the sizes of rental units and how much the average bill costs. Electricity is the first to be started.

[edit] Buildings

  • There are 160ish buildings on campus. Have a look at ISU buildings and create a few buildings or flesh some existing ones out:
    • Year(s) of construction
    • Year(s) of renovation
    • Who it's named after
    • When it was razed (obviously if applicable)
    • Add it to Category:ISU buildings
    • Add pictures (also put into Category:ISU buildings)
    • Add Template:Building
    • What departments and/or colleges are in that building
    • Where are the main offices
    • Public phones?
    • Water fountains?
    • Links to FP&M floor plans
    • Links to daily articles
    • Trivia
    • Computer labs (login required or not)

[edit] In and around Ames

  • Ames has a good number of bars so please create a page about each one (address, pictures, hours, google map, etc. would be great as well)
  • Ames also has lots of restaurants so please create a page about each one (again, menu, pictures, address, hours, google map, cuisine, specialties, etc. would be great as well)
  • local music is starting to shape up. Keep up the good work.
  • Here's something that most people use: ATMs! We need:
    • Location of all ATMs
    • Table where rows are ATM locations, and columns are banks. Each entry in the table gives you the additional fee/surcharge to withdraw from that ATM if you use a debit card from that bank.
  • Theaters has the three movies theaters...anyone interested in keeping the currently playing movies up-to-date?
