This Month in ISU History
November 7: In 1850, William Beardshear was born. Beardshear was the 5th president of ISU (1891-1902).

November 13: In 1890, William Chamberlain leaves the office of the president. Chamberlain was the 4th president at ISU (1886-1890) after leaving the Secretary of Agriculture for Ohio (1880-1886).

November 16: In 1979, Alumni Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

November 18: In 1976, Henry Wallace (Class of 1910) died. Wallace served as vice-president under Franklin D. Roosevelt's; U.S. secretary of agriculture; and U.S. secretary of commerce.

November 19: In 1939, Tom Harkin (Class of 1962) was born. Harkin is Iowa's junior US Senator.

November 25: In 1985, a plane crash kills 6 members of the ISU cross-country team which spurs the creation of Forward.

November 27: In 1883, Adonijah Welch leaves the office of the president. Welch was the 1st president of ISU (1868-1883) and helped design the early campus and develop agriculture & mechanic arts courses. Both Welch Avenue and Welch Hall are named after him.

November 29: In 1977, the Golden Key International Honour Society was formed at Georgia State University and the ISU chapter was founded in April 1987.


This Month in Ames History
November 2: In 2001, the Deans List closes after being open since 1995. Big Shots opened a few months later to be closes 3 years later leaving Reign as the current occupants of the building.

November 3: In 1992, Edward Deases made a homemade weapon and killed a fellow prisoner and he received an additional life sentence to his portfolio after murdering their brother's girlfriend, Jennifer Gardner (see Deases Brothers for that juicy story).

November 6: In 1842, George G. Tilden was born. Tilden became the 9th mayor of Ames (1880-1881) and was the owner of the Tilden Store.

November 26: In 1864, Cynthia Duff sold some land to John Blair whom developed a railroad through Ames.
