The Department of Physics & Astronomy is a part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The department's home is Physics Hall, with other facilities in the Zaffarano Physics Addition and the Fick Observatory in Boone. Physics & Astronomy offers the full range of degrees, with research programs in Astronomy/Astrophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, High-energy Physics and Nuclear Physics.
Every year, the Department awards the Mal Iles Innovation Award to one or more undergraduate students who "show unusual interest in innovation and inventions."
