Parking

ISU is a pedestrian campus, so don't expect much parking on campus. Besides, staff and faculty are here much longer than students so they get priority.

Off-campus and around Ames: there isn't much trouble to find a parking place. Any place you'd go to buy something will have parking spaces.

• North Grand Mall: no problem
• Target, K-Mart, Wal-Mart: no problem
• Hy-Vee, Cub Foods: no problem
• Restaurants: no problem

However:

• Jack Trice Stadium for football games: go early
• Hilton Coliseum for basketball games: go early
• Class: take CyRide
• Main Street: there's parking meters, so take a couple dimes with you

Other "rules":

1. If you park illegally, don't leave your blinkers on. That's the quickest way of attracting DPS Parking to your car, guaranteeing a ticket.
2. Don't park in a handicapped spot then whine on Strangetalk about how you were only inside for 15 minutes and don't deserve the ticket. That's super lame.

If you must drive to campus:

• Do so after 5pm when a lot of lots become open for non-permit holders
• Park in the lots west of the Armory (Lot 21 & Lot 11)
• Park in the parking ramp at the Memorial Union
• Park at Lied Recreation Athletic Center
• Be lucky to find an open meter on campus (not a complete list):
  • Between Lagomarcino Hall and Kildee Hall
  • South-east of Snedecor Hall
  • Along Morrill Road in front of Beardshear Hall
  • To the west of the Memorial Union

But be warned that most parking meters on campus are shorter than any class, so don't use those for classes unless you want a ticket. Also be warned that lots like the parking ramp or west of Armory would get expensive if you park there for a semester.

Finally, if you live off campus and aren't near a CyRide stop (like living in Gilbert or Nevada), then you can park in the Hilton Coliseum lots, walk over to the Transit Hub and take the Orange route to campus. There's also a commuter lot — Lot 29 — that is north of Molecular Biology Building.
