Mark Witherspoon

A former lecturer in the journalism department who taught JL MC 202. He is best known as "Spoon," the plucky advisor for the Iowa State Daily. He was hired as the full-time "editorial advisor" for the Daily after serving as a part-time "faculty advisor" for several years. Because of this, he no longer lectures, but maintains a close relationship with the Greenlee School of Journalism faculty.

Spoon has had many years of experience in the newspaper business, including 12 years of editor experience at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

He previously advised at the TCU Daily Skiff and SMU Daily Campus.

He is a self-described "aging hippy." Spoon will go out of the way to help out his advisees.
