Mark Kushner has been the dean of the College of Engineering since January 2005. He has undergraduate degrees in astronomy and nuclear engineering from UCLA, and graduate degrees in applied physics from Cal Tech. Before coming to ISU, he was a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he had also served of the interim chair to the dean of the this and that and I don't know; he was there for 28 years so he had plenty of titles. Maybe that means he's a team player. He'll need it to win people over--Dr. Kushner's predecessor, James Melsa, was pretty popular.
Dr. Kushner's faculty position is an endowed chair in electrical engineering; he also serves as director of the Computational Optical and Discharge Physics Group in Durham Center. His area of research before becoming a professor dealt mostly with applied physics and plasma gas, with a little side work on microtechnology. Dr. Kushner has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals; he holds five patents and a boatload of fellowships from various professional organizations.
