La Boheme, owned by Pete Sherman is perhaps the closest thing Ames has to an actual nightclub--it has the distinction of being one of the only establishments in town with a Bars, a DJ booth and a dance floor. However, the Boheme only features live DJs on Thursday nights and live musical performances even less frequently. Daniel Sherman, the owner's son, is in charge of booking here. During the school year they also hold Open mic nights on Mondays and the occasional poetry slam. On other weeknights the Boheme takes on more of a cafe feel, with many patrons opting to just nurse a Blue Moon and take advantage of the bar's wireless access for a while.

The popular stereotype among students is that the Boheme is a place you go to pay too much money to get drunk and watch foreigners hit on your girlfriend. Experience does not bear this out. However, drinks at the Boheme can be still be more costly than at other student bars, so the most efficient way to enjoy this venue is to drop by Thumbs on Thursday night to build up a little courage with their $1 gin and tonics, then wander up the street to the Boheme and dance for a couple hours.

The owner once threatened to sue Vic Vijayakumar, the owner of Strangetalk, because someone was pretending to post on the messageboard as the owner of the Boheme.

Oh yeah, it's closing too because Sherman is getting deported as a suspected Al Quaeda sympathizer.
