Keg registration

Keg registration is a bill — written by Story County Attorney Stephen Holmes — which would require you to show your ID and give your current address when buying a keg.

The argument for having this bill is that it would reduce underage drinking.

There is also debate of how effective such a local ordinance would be; it's only half an hour to get to the next county to buy a keg. People can just buy cans or bottles of beer or hard liquor, which would not be restricted.

UNI has a smilar ban in Black Hawk County and police say they have seen an increase in hard alcohol but haven't seen an effect as far as handing out less tickets. This evidence is cited as a reason FOR the keg ban. What the fuck?

[edit] September 28, 2005 forum

There was a forum in the Memorial Union Gallery on September 28, 2005 at 6 pm. Maybe someone showed up and will tell us about it?

At the keg registration forum all the non-students(except for a select few) took what the students said and responded with a, "well you're a drunken idiot so we are not going to listen to you" type remark. Not one thing a student said was even considered by the county attorney. Daily letter to the editor
