KURE
From Rofflehaus
KURE is ISU's student-run radio station. It operates out of Friley Hall and broadcasts on the 88.5 MHz frequency. Tune in, turn on, drop out.
KURE has been operating from Friley Hall for over fifty-five years. It first started in a dorm room, moved to a broom closet across the hall from its current location, and then into a revamped DOR office. KURE was originally a dorm radio station; it went from AM to FM in the late 1970's.
KURE features student DJ's (all volunteers) spinning a wide variety of music, most of which you probably haven't heard of because your taste in music is pathetic. KURE also features live broadcasts from Cyclone sporting events, news programs, and talk shows. In the summer of 2005, KURE added an automation system and the station now runs 24 hours a day when everything works right.
Every spring, KURE holds Kaleidoquiz, a 26-hour quiz bowl/scavenger hunt/marathon. It's madness.
KURE's transmitter is located on top of Physics Hall and has a propensity to be struck by lightning.
It is run by a 13 person (give or take) Board of Directors. All members are student volunteers that commit between 5-40 hours per week to run the radio station; half of them are functioning alcoholics.
