As indicated by its name, there are two factions within this college:
Journalism has four different emphasises
- Magazine and newspaper
- Electronic media studies (i.e. broadcasting)
- Visual communication (photo, Web, design)
- Science communication
Mass Communication is basically advertising.
There are several requirements needed to get into the journalism major:
- Either having an ACT score of 26 or highter, OR: passing the English Usage Test
- Three foundation courses:
- JL MC 101 - a basic course about media and society
- JL MC 116 - how to make a career in JL MC
- JL MC 201 - a basic writing and reporting class.
[edit] History
- Retired professor Tom Emmerson fought a long fight to get JL and MC to be one word, but failed.
