Jeffrey Lundgren
From Rofflehaus
Shortly after midnight on April 9, 2005 Jeffrey Scott Lundgren of Ames walked into the Welch Avenue Kum & Go and asked the clerk to call an ambulance. The story goes that when a police officer arrived and asked a profusely bleeding Lundgren what caused such a serious injury, he laughed and replied, "Well officer, to be honest I was trying to steal some drugs."
[edit] The stabbing
Earlier in the evening, Lundgren was at a party on Knapp Street with his friend Shayne Wiesenhofer. There they met Luke LeClere and Nick Loffredo of Des Moines, who were in possession of a backpack containing a certain amount of marijuana. The popular rumor is that the gentlemen from Des Moines were drug dealers, but this has never been proven.
Later in the evening, Lundgren and Wiesenhofer encountered LeClere and Loffredo again at Reign. When the latter slipped off into the alley, our boys got the idea that they might be able to jump the two and make off with the backpack full of weed. They were half successful--Lundgren and Wiesenhofer surprised their adversaries and were beating them quite soundly when LeClere brandished a knife at his attackers. The four men soon scrambled away in separate directions. LeClere fled down That Alley, discarding his knife in the Pizza Pit dumpster. Wiesenhofer staggered as far as Lot 60 before collapsing in between cars, where he was later found by paramedics. And Lundgren walked famously into the Kum & Go next door and summoned medical assistance.
In the end, it was Jeffrey Lundgren and Shayne Wiesenhofer who were arrested and charged--investigators decided that Luke LeClere was acting in self-defense by stabbing his assailants; and supposedly when the police caught up with Wiesenhofer his backpack was empty. The two would-be drug thieves pled guilty to assault and conspiracy. Lundgren agreed to testify against his friends and was sentenced to two years; Wiesenhofer was sentenced to five. Both are now out on probation.
