Things were looking up for Jason Berryman in 2003. He was voted defensive MVP for the 2002 football season and lead the team in tackles, and all of this was in his first season.

Then on the fateful night of August 19, 2004 Berryman stole $4 from Jeffery Kemble, punched him in the face, and then stole his cell phone. Berryman had apparently denied stealing the phone, but when a police officer tried calling the number, a phone in Berryman's pants started ringing. He was arrested and later sentenced to 300 days in jail, $1500 fines, and two years of probation.

It was reported that he would be re-admitted to school for the Fall of 2005, and was reinstated to the football team by Dan McCarney.

After the 2005 season Berryman was caught underage in Club Element and was permanently removed from the team. He lead the Cyclones in tackles in their 7-5 season.

Berryman was caught driving under suspension after running a stop sign and colliding with another vehicle.
