OK, here's how the University works:

The president is the top dog. Everyone and everything that works for Iowa State answers to him, and he don't answer to nobody but the big bosses, so show some fucking respect, you worthless maggot. The president has his own office, which oversees stuff like lawyers, marketing, and athletics.

The rest of the turf is divided up into three separate divisions. One is student affairs, which is tasked with stocking and maintaining the student population. The registrar, admissions, residence and financial aid are the big players here. Other random units like the Memorial Union and Student Health Center also report directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs, and many more smaller offices are represented by the Dean of Students.

The second division reports to the Vice President for Business and Finance. The business operations divisions report here--everything from groundskeeping to the cops to public radio--as do the financial divisions that you will never hear about unless there's another big accounting scandal.

The provost is responsible for the third division. While it may sound like he belongs on a sandwich, the provost (whose full title is the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost) is responsible for all research and academics at Iowa State. Academics are the purview of the deans of the seven colleges (and the library). Most research is divided between the Institute for Physical Research & Technology, which oversees the Ames Lab and most physical research, and the Plant Sciences Institute, which manages the various agricultural centers. The Vice Provost for Research oversees all of the other, smaller research groups. The provost also is in charge of Iowa State's extensive Extension services and the new CIO post.

That's the entire University heirarchy. If you're not in there somewhere, you're just some crazy homeless person. Or, of course, a student.

[edit] Official Websites

From day 1 at Iowa State everyone assumes you know all of the websites, what they do, and how to get there.

ISU's homepage - Quite obvious.
Accessplus - For managing your courses, checking your grades, paying your bill, financial aid, etc.
Acropolis - For managing your computers on campus.
WebCt - For online courses.

[edit] Student-run Web Sites

There are many websites created and managed by ISU students. They can be viewed at Student Run Websites.

[edit] Living

Options include

[edit] Transportation

You can walk, ride a bike, or take CyRide. Don't bother thinking you can drive your car to class. No one drives their car to class; all of the parking spots are full. Exceptions include those hard to find 7:30-5:00 reserved spots.

[edit] Activities

ISU students appreciate the gamut of Student Organizations and activities, ranging from broomball to sex.
