[edit] Description

The ISUCard is ISU's ID card. It is red, with the student's portrait on the upper right. A string of numbers is on the left side of the card with the student's name under that. The back has a magnetic strip.

The middle nine digits of the number on your ISUCard are your Student ID number. It is often needed for university forms and often for taking exams. The number is used often enough that you should probably memorize it if you don't plan on carrying your ISUCard around all the time.

Each ISU student must have an ISUCard, so it's one of the first things new students must get when they come to ISU.

[edit] Getting an ISUCard or replacement

The ISUCard Office is in 0530 Beardshear Hall. Their phone number is (515)294-2727. Their regular business hours are 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday, but they stop taking pictures at 4:30pm.

Your first ISUCard is free. If you lose your ISUCard, a replacement costs $20. If your card's magnetic strip doesn't work, or it's too old, or is broken (but you still have it), you can get a free replacement. Replacement cards use the original picture on file. If you want a new picture for your replacement ISUCard, that costs an extra $20. A replacement card will render the original card useless in terms of "swiping." (I.E. the magnetic strip will no longer be useful.) It can still be used for "showing the card" instances, such as intramural sports.

Faculty and staff have slightly different policies. They get one free replacement per year. Affiliates (whatever those are) of the university are charged a $10 annual fee.

[edit] What else is it good for?

Your ISUCard gets you:

  • Access to CyCash.
  • into the dining room if you have a Meal plan with Dining Service.
  • onto the CyRide bus.
  • books checked out from Parks Library.
  • into the Rec.
  • student discounts at many local businesses, such as:
  • into events sponsored by your college or residence area.
  • ATM/debit card (only if you set it up)
  • college student discounts away from ISU
  • a bunch more stuff.

[edit] News articles

  • The article, ISUCard will cause a serious hassle, in the 04/11, 1996 edition of the Iowa State Daily is still unavailable due to a change in the Daily's website and general laziness of Rofflehaus contributors. If you'd like to help fix a broken link like this, check out Template talk:ISUD to find out how. Thank you for your patience. (D: 04/11/1996)
