One of the newest buildings on campus is Gary and Donna Hoover Hall. It is home to the Materials Science and Engineering department, and has offices and labs used by the College of Engineering, the Mechanical Engineering department and Ames Laboratory. Because of its curved northeast corner it appears smaller than it actually is, with close to 75,000 square feet of floor space including four large classrooms and a 400-seat auditorium.

Hoover Hall is connected to Howe Hall by the ISU's one and only skywalk, which itself is connected to a hallway that runs the length of Hoover--a great place to take Engineering Recruiting's Segway for a spin. On the ground floor are a series of small group study rooms used for M E 270 group sessions. Next to those is the new ME machine shop, and most nights you can find Larry Hanft milling about, fiddling with the CNC machine and muttering foul curses against students under his breath.
