Ev Cherrington, aka The Hub Preacher. Like Tom Short, he periodically speaks out his mind in the free speech zone.

Cherrington enjoyed a brief period of popularity on the ISU campus between 1997 and 1999, when he could be found in the free speech zone on almost every sunny day. He wore shorts with tall striped knee socks as he preached to passing students. Disrespectful t-shirts, facial piercings, visible tattoos, and un-Christian literature got him particularly angry.

In 1998, Cherrington capitalized on his memorable appearance by selling T-shirts emblazoned the slogan "God-Socks Guy" and a caricature of himself.

Cherrington's crusade came to a screeching halt in April 1999, when he accosted ISU student Shane Howard following a lecture given by Jello Biafra. Howard was carrying his 5-year-old daughter in his arms as he left the lecture hall. He said that Cherrington attempted to grab the girl while telling him that he was a bad parent for exposing her to Biafra's "filth." Howard's daughter reportedly sustained bruises in the confrontation.

Cherrington claimed that he had merely touched Howard's arm to get his attention, and that Howard was exaggerating his daughter's injuries in order to discredit him.
