Freeman Hall was an entirely female dorm until 2003 at which point the Department of Residence moved all the returning females into Oak and Elm Halls. The building was all male for the 2003-2004 school year (housing residents who were supposed to live in Knapp Hall). During the 2004-2005 school year, Busse House and Vollmer House condensed into the bottom two floors of the building. The displaced Barton Hall students used the top two floors. For the 2005-2006 school year, Vollmer house will become co-ed and Busse will return to all-male
