Eight Miles Out
From Rofflehaus
Eight Miles Out was formed by Chris Saldanha and Pat Boberg in 1999 when they were both juniors in high school. The band has an overly long and complicated history, involving many drummers and several stylistic changes. Starting out as a vaguely pop-punkish band that mostly appealed to fellow high-schoolers, Eight Miles Out's sound slowly evolved into a darker, post-punk/emo concoction. In late 2002, Noah Wiese joined the band as bassist, moving Chris over to guitar/vocals. Noah's presence, along with a marked improvement in the fashion sense of the band, is generally credited with attracting large throngs of attractive women to 8MO shows.
Eight Miles out played numerous shows throughout the state of Iowa until Chris left to study abroad in Florence, Italy during the fall of 2004. This obviously put a hamper on the activities of the band. When Chris returned in the spring, Eight Miles Out held some practices and wrote some new songs with the intent of returning to full face-melting force. Unfortunately, school and the desire of some members to "graduate college" got in the way, and the band regrettably was not able to play again.
However, the most recent news from the 8MO camp is that all members will be living in the Ames area during the forth-coming year, which hints at the possibility that the great behemoth that is Eight Miles Out could once again rise from its deep slumber and show the world a thing or two about how this music we call "rock" is supposed to be done.
