Distinguished professor
From Rofflehaus
Distinguished Professor is the highest academic rank you can hold at Iowa State. There are people with endowed chairs who don't even have this--shoot, there are deans who are only University Professors. The title can only be revoked in extreme cases, so it's probably not worth trying to go all "A Few Good Men" on your instructor if you think he or she is engaged in shady dealings. They're already set for life.
ISU has appointed two Distinguished Professors for the current (05-06) school year: Craig Anderson (psychology chair) and Costas Soukoulis (physics). They will be formally promoted at the fall convocation in September.
