The Department of Transportation is in charge of ensuring that there are enough potholes and road construction in the summer.
There is a large DOT compound to the west of the Lincoln Center Hy Vee. Note that for 99.9% of what you probably want to do (get a license or register your car) you do not go there.
The DOT is one of the largest employers in Ames. In aggregation with ISU, the state of Iowa probably is the #1 largest employer in Ames.
