Chuck Grassley (born September 7, 1933) is Iowa's senior US Senator. A native of New Hartford, he has lived in Iowa pretty much all his life, if you don't count all that time in Washington, D.C.. Grassley went into the Iowa House immediately after earning his master's from UNI in 1956, and held his seat until his election to Congress in 1974. He subsequently held that seat until being elected to the Senate in 1980. Basically, Chuck Grassley has never lost an election in his life--indeed, in his most recent re-election he defeated his opponent by nearly forty points.

As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Grassley makes the national news quite often, so it's not uncommon to see him on the cable news networks around federal budget time.
