Christian Petersen

Christian Petersen (1885 – 1961) was a Denmark-born sculptor who moved to the United States with his parents in 1894. He was the first resident sculptor at any US college or university.
Petersen came to ISU in 1934 and stayed here until 1955. During those 21 years he created 12+ major public sculptures including:
He also created numerous busts and other sculptures of faculty, including a full sculpture of George Washington Carver.
