The way public phones on campus work (verify and correct these if you please)

[edit] Free calls

  • On campus:
    • 294-xxxx numbers are dialed as 4-xxxx
    • 296-xxxx numbers are dialed as 6-xxxx
    • 572-xxxx numbers are dialed as 2-xxxx
  • Ames numbers are dialed by first pressing 8, followed by the seven digit phone numbers.
  • Dial 911 for emergency.

[edit] Pay calls

  • Long distance calls can be made with a long-distance access code, which students and faculty can check on AccessPlus.
  • There are instructions for dialing with calling cards.
