Ankeny is a city of some 27,000 people in Polk County. For a few years it was trendy to live here if you worked in Des Moines and were rich, an honor that has since passed to Clive or something. Now it's just full of second-wave yuppies living in million-dollar homes in gated communities. Rows upon rows of identical million-dollar homes.

The main campus of DMACC is located in Skankeny, as are the headquarters of Casey's General Stores. Ankeny also boasts several big box stores--one of central Iowa's two SuperTargets is here, as is a Home Depot, yet another ginormous Wal-Mart, and so on. Hooray. However, their Goodwill can kick our Goodwill's ass, so step off.

If you're looking for actual Ankeny shops and not chain stores you're mostly out of luck. There is a local bar, Roadhouse 69, and a locally-owned dry cleaners I forget the name of. But that's about all.
