Ames Public Library
From Rofflehaus
Ames Public Library is located on Douglas Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets. It is somewhat small, but there are still reasons to use it. If you are into leisure reading, you have a better chance of finding something to read here than at Parks Library. Signing up for a library card is very easy and painless.
The area of most interest to ISU students will probably be the movies. They have a large collection of movies on both VHS and DVD. You can check out up to five movies at once for a week at a time. This is longer than any video store will give you, and it's free. It can be quite entertaining to just browse the movie titles to see what you can find.
They also have a wide range of music including everything from Mozart to Sting and Benny Goodman to the Ghostbusters soundtrack. If you're planning a road trip, check out a book on tape or CD. Sound recordings may be checked out for up to three weeks.
In 2002, the Ames Public Library was ranked by the Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings as the 8th best library nationwide of all libraries serving populations from 50k-99,999.
