Ada Hayden Prairie is a prairie located in Howard County that was named after Ada Hayden after her death by the Iowa Conservation Commission. The prairie is also on the list of National Register of Historic Places.

[edit] Location

The prairie is located 5 miles north of Highway 9 on Jade Avenue (aka county highway V-21). As the crow flies, the prairie is about midway between Riceville, Iowa and Lime Springs, Iowa.

To get to the prairie from Ames:

  • take I-35 north for about 100 miles to highway 9 exit (Hanlotown or Manly exit)
  • take 9 east for 50 miles past Riceville
  • take Jade Avenue/county highway V-21 north 5 miles
  • Once you reach the stop sign, the prairie will be located on the south-west corner (it'll be obvious since there's only one prairie and the rest will be farm land).
  • Take a left for 0.25 miles to the main entrance
