6th Street

6th Street is the main downtown thoroughfare, connecting the businesses and residences there to campus. Yet for some reason the worst traffic lights in town are here, at Grand and Duff Avenues. Plus, the Ames Police Department is located here--their cars are parked right along the road, so speeding is unwarranted.

That police station is part of City Hall, which is located here at the corner of Clark Avenue. There are also some nice parks on 6th Street: Bandshell Park off of Duff, Brookside Park along Squaw Creek and the Ames Skate Park across the street from there.
