38th Parallel

Arguably the most successful band to come out of Ames, 38th Parallel are a Christian hard rock/rap band. The band formed in 2001 and quickly built up a local fan base that could only be described as "rabid". In 2002 38th Parallel release their full-length "Turn The Tides" on Christian major label Squint Entertainment. Working with a major label afforded the band the opportunity to work with big time producers and big time studio budgets. It also got them a number one hit on Christian mainstream radio (I need to confirm and get more info on this).

38th Parallel describe themselves as "thinking man's hard music", and have sold out many a show in Ames and Des Moines.
